Women of New Zealand

This is shepherdess Anna Fenemor and her working dogs. At the time the photo was taken, she was working at Glenburn Station, a hill country station that runs 10,000 sheep and 1000 cattle, born and bred on the station.

I was on a photographic trip to Glenburn for a weekend back in 2021 and struck up a conversation with Anna. I enjoyed hearing Anna’s story – unfortunately I should have taken notes – but asked if I could take a few photos of her with her team of five dogs. Needless to say, I didn’t quite get all five dogs together but Anna had a great relationship with her dogs and clearly loved them. I submitted the above image to the 2022 Photographic Society of New Zealand’s Sony National Exhibition, and the photo won the Trophy for Best Portrait, and went on to gain a few more awards.
